Agricultural (Ag) Society
The Hardisty Agricultural Society was incorporated in 1972 and has been in good standing with Alberta Agricultural Society ever since. The Hardisty Agricultural Society is made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a minimum of 12 directors. We try to have directors that represent the various groups in town so we have a better understanding of what is happening around Town. There is always room for more directors, so if anyone is interested in joining please let us know.
Since incorporation the Hardisty Ag Society has been involved with the Operation & Capital Projects connected to the Hardisty Arena. In 1991 the Hardisty Ag Society signed a working agreement with the Town of Hardisty to Operate the Hardisty Lake Park & Hardisty Arena, maintain the Hardisty Rodeo Grounds and Ball Diamonds. In 2000 we started Operating the Hardisty River Campsite with a $1000 grant from the County of Flagstaff. In 2002 we started doing the maintenance of the Hardisty Soccer Field and in 2003 we started doing the maintenance of the Hardisty Cemetery with the exception of the hedge.
The Hardisty Arena is looked after by a sub-committee: "The Hardisty Arena Management Board". They do a good job of the day to day operations plus major capital projects. The Ag Society has helped with Grant funding for all of their major capital projects. The Hardisty Arena Management Board is always looking for more board members.
Since 1973 the Ag Society has helped with the following projects:
Hardisty Arena Projects:
- Artificial Ice
- New Lobby Entrance additionOriginal
- Fire Alarm system in 1979, then upgrades to that system in 1987
- First heaters over bleachers
- Sound System & Sound Booth
- Trophy Case
- Dressing Room additions
- New Tin Roofing on Arena in 1986
- Plexiglass around boards and tempered glass
- Reconditioned Zamboni in 1990
- Renovations to Players Boxes in 1991
- Installed Alumi-Zorb in Arena
- Hosted Hockey School in 1993 & 1994 with proceeds going to the Arena Operations
- Hosted Hockey School & Grizzly Hockey in 1995 & 1996 with proceeds to Arena Operations
- Secured Ag Initiatives Grant Funding to help with Kitchen Renovations & Curling Club Renovations in 1998
- Secured Ag Initiatives Grant Funding to help with the Arena Board Project in 1999
- Secured Ag Initiatives Grant Funding to help with Curling Club Cement Project in 2001
- Secured Ag Initiative Grant Funding to help with Zamboni Project in 2003
- Replaced Front Doors at Hardisty Arena in 2005 with Cash Casino Funding
Hardisty Lake Park projects:
- Took over Operation of Lake from the Town in 1992
- Started installing Power to existing sites
- Purchased Showerhouse Facility in 1993
- Installed more power sites in 1996
- Purchased new picnic tables for Lake sites from 1993-2003
- Purchased first used Lake Truck in 1997
- Purchased Cabin for Lake staff & office
- Installed Playground equipment
- Shared Mower purchase with the Town in 1998
- Installed water & sewer to existing power sites in 1998 & 1999 with Ag Initiatives Grant Funding
- Sponsor students to go to REDA Camp from 1999 - 2005.
- Replaced old Lake Truck in 2000
- Replaced Roofing on all Outdoor Washrooms at Lake & Rodeo Grounds in 2001
- Replaced Showerhouse Floor in 2002
- Repaired River Campsite Outhouse Roofs in 2003
- Installed Water/Sewer to 12 more sites in 2003
- Purchased Playground Equipment with Cash Casino Funding in 2003
- Installed Septic Tank at Soccer Field Outhouses in 2004
- Removed Change Houses from Beach & Replaced with Gazebo's in 2004
- Moved Lake Booth to Soccer Field in 2004
- Purchased washroom facility for Beach in 2004
- Purchased new mower in 2005
- Installed Beach Fence in 2005
