Garbage & Recycling

Flagstaff Waste Management performs the garbage pick-up service in town, and manages the transfer site 3.7 km northwest of downtown Hardisty. Regular residential waste pickup occurs Monday mornings (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). The transfer site is open both Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon).

You are allowed a maximum of four (4) bags of garbage per week. Additional bag tags are available from the Town of Hardisty Office Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at a cost of $2 each.

Status: Operates Sedgewick Regional Landfill (SW11-45-12-W4) and regional transfer stations at: Alliance, Daysland, Forestburg, Hardisty.

Garbage collection in the Town of Hardisty is Monday. Place garbage at the rear of your property if you have a back alley or in the front if you have no back alley.

If Monday is a Holiday, then it is Tuesday.

Recycling Information

Grass Cuttings
There are compost bins in Town at the Town Shop, Fire Hall and the new subdivision located at the south end of Luken Ave. These are to be used for grass clippings and leaves only. Please empty the bags, and put the bags into your regular garbage. If you are unable to get your compost to any of the bins, please contact our office.

Recycling Bins
There are recycling bins in Town located at the Town Shop (5108-51st Street).

MOVED by Councillor Lane THAT Council approve Flagstaff Regional Solid Waste Managements’ Proposal for Regional Transfer Site Service with a projected start date of January 1, 2017:

THAT FRSWMA remove “Transitional Transfer Sites” (Heisler, Killam, Lougheed, Rosalind, Sedgewick, Strome & Galahad) from the FRSWMA Regional Service effective January 1, 2017.

THAT future free weekends and the municipal “town bin” at each of the “transitional site partners will continue to be funded by FRSWMA.

THAT any other future FRSWMA involvement (if any) at the transitional sites, will be negotiated individually with each community council.

THAT FRSWMA will enter into operational agreements with all Transitional Transfer Site partners (Heisler, Strome, Galahad, Lougheed, Rosalind). THAT FRSWMA will enter into operational agreements with all Regional Transfer Site partners (Daysland, Forestburg, Hardisty and Alliance). WHEREAS Killam and Sedgewick municipalities have voted to have their existing transfer sites to be closed permanently and will still be able to participate in the future free weekends and municipal “town bin” offer made to the transitional site partners.
