While the widely known mission of The Royal Canadian Legion is to “serve veterans and their dependents” and “promote remembrance” it is also to “act in the service of Canada and its communities.” The Legion provides services to military families through outreach programs, connecting them to public and private programs, assisting with government applications and appeals, and lobbying for veterans’ rights and benefits.
In Service to the community, the Legion offers seniors support and advocacy of seniors’ rights, as it is committed to prevention of fraud and elder abuse. They also provide financial and volunteer support to local charities and have given $3,300,000 in direct support to youth activities such as Scouts, Cadets and scholarships.
Membership is open to all citizens in the form of Ordinary, Associate, and Affiliate memberships. Anyone who wants to support the Legion can contribute can join by contacting their local branch.
